FAQ

What is colon hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy, colon irrigation, and colonics all refer to the same practice and are often used interchangeably.

Colon hydrotherapy is a gentle process that uses gravity-fed, filtered, temperature-controlled water to help cleanse the large intestine. During the session, warm water is introduced into the colon and naturally flows back out, helping to remove accumulated waste from the colon. The treatment is performed in a private, comfortable, and supportive environment, allowing you to relax throughout the session.

What does a colonic session entail?

Before your first appointment, you'll complete a confidential health intake form, which we will briefly go over.

Your appointment lasts approximately one hour. The colon cleansing portion takes about 45 minutes, followed by a few minutes to allow any remaining water to drain naturally. The additional time is provided so you can get comfortably settled before your session and get dressed afterward without feeling rushed.

During the session, you'll lie comfortably on the LIBBE colon hydrotherapy device while gravity-fed, filtered, temperature-controlled water is gently introduced into the colon through a sterile, single-use disposable rectal nozzle. As water flows in, stool and colon contents are naturally released into the LIBBE drain system, which carries the waste directly into the sewer. A separate vent line helps minimize odors throughout the session.

Your privacy and modesty are protected throughout the session with professional draping. As an I-ACT Certified Colon Hydrotherapist, I will guide you through the entire process, answer any questions, and ensure you're as comfortable as possible.

What type of colonic device do you use?

Aqua Bliss Colonics uses the LIBBE (Lower Intestinal Bottom Bowel Evacuation) system, an FDA-registered Class II medical device designed to provide a gentle, comfortable colon hydrotherapy experience.

The LIBBE uses filtered, UV-purified water delivered at a safe, gravity-fed flow rate. Water temperature and flow are carefully controlled throughout your session for comfort. Because it is an open system, you remain in control of releasing waste naturally, without the need for repeated assistance from the therapist. A separate vent line helps minimize odors during the session.

Your health and safety are our top priorities. The LIBBE is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with hospital-grade disinfectants before and after every appointment, and every client receives a new sterile, single-use disposable rectal nozzle.

What are the potential benefits of colon hydrotherapy?

Many people choose colon hydrotherapy as part of a holistic approach to digestive health and overall wellness. While every person's experience is unique, many clients report feeling lighter, less bloated, and more energized following a session. Because every individual is different, results and experiences will vary.

Some clients also share that they experience improved bowel regularity, reduced gas, increased energy, better sleep, enhanced mental clarity, and an overall sense of well-being. Others choose regular colon hydrotherapy as part of their personal wellness routine to support healthy digestion and elimination.

When is colon hydrotherapy contraindicated?

A contraindication is a medical condition or circumstance that makes a particular therapy inadvisable or requires medical clearance before treatment.

For your safety, colon hydrotherapy may not be appropriate if you have any of the following conditions. If any apply to you, we require written medical clearance from your healthcare provider before scheduling your appointment.

  2. Recent gastrointestinal (GI) or rectal bleeding

How should I prepare for a colonic?

In the 24 hours leading up to your appointment, we recommend eating lightly and focusing on simple, easy-to-digest foods when possible. Many clients also choose to reduce or avoid caffeine and alcohol during this time, as both can be dehydrating.

Staying well-hydrated before your session is important. A common wellness guideline is to drink roughly half your body weight in ounces of water per day (for example, 150 lbs ≈ 75 oz), but you can adjust based on your individual needs and comfort.

We suggest avoiding food for about 1–2 hours before your appointment so you arrive feeling comfortable during your session.

Will everything in my colon be eliminated during a colonic?

Every person’s body is different, and results vary from session to session. The amount released during a colonic depends on factors such as diet, hydration, stress levels, and overall digestive function.

For many first-time clients, the initial session may be more introductory, and subsequent sessions can feel more productive as the body becomes familiar with the process. Because of this, most clients choose to schedule two sessions within a short period as part of their personal wellness routine, while others prefer a single session and return as needed based on how they feel.

Occasionally, some clients report post-session responses such as light-headedness, mild fatigue, or bloating after a session. Staying well-hydrated and resting afterward can be helpful.

What should I do after a colonic?

After your session, staying well-hydrated is important. Many clients prefer water, herbal tea, coconut water, or light broths to support comfort and hydration. It is best to avoid alcohol, caffeine, and very heavy or sugary foods immediately afterward.

You may choose to eat lightly for the rest of the day, focusing on simple, easy-to-digest meals as your body adjusts. Gentle movement such as walking is encouraged, while more strenuous exercise can be resumed based on how you feel. A warm bath or Epsom salt bath is something many people enjoy for relaxation afterward, though it is entirely optional.

Some clients notice shifts in energy, digestion, appetite, or emotional awareness after a session. We recommend simply observing how your body responds without overanalyzing or forcing any specific routine. As your system recalibrates, your normal elimination pattern may feel slightly different for a short period of time. This typically normalizes on its own.

How often should I get a colonic?

After your first session, we typically discuss your individual experience and goals to help guide a personalized wellness schedule. Many clients choose to begin with a short series of sessions spaced closer together, followed by maintenance appointments based on how they feel. A common approach is 2–3 sessions in the first couple of weeks, then gradually spacing sessions further apart over time as part of an ongoing wellness routine.

Frequency can vary widely depending on the individual. Some people prefer occasional sessions for general digestive support, while others incorporate colon hydrotherapy more regularly as part of their personal self-care practices. Lifestyle factors such as hydration, diet, stress, and activity levels can also influence how often someone chooses to schedule sessions. Your practitioner can help you determine a rhythm that feels appropriate for your body and goals.
